Feedback from the Trade on Their Plans and Interest in the USA Pear Season:
As in many parts of the world the Ecuador and Peru pear buyer is seeking for suppliers. The region is normally a destination of the old and cheap fruit Argentina, as this season there is little availability there will be need to source from other countries. both Peru and Ecuador have traders trying to source pears from NW, cost will be a detrimental point for decisions.
Expectations for Any Freight or Logistics Challenges:
Although both countries share the same sea as NW USA, the cost and transit time have increased since Covid.
Opportunities in Your Market for Specific Varieties, Sizes, and Grades:
Both countries do prefer Anjou and Bosc, medium to small sizes for the majority of the retailers, and a few do have space for larger sizes. Red Anjou could be considered in a mix load and targeting the Christmas season.
Update on the Competition in the Market:
The presence of Chile and Argentina in both markets is big, but as the volume of fruit has decreased in the past season the need continues to grow. Europe do have access with Trade Agreements but very little if any have reached the markets.
Political or Economic Issues Impacting Imports, Retail, or Consumer Behavior:
Both countries continues to struggle with political problems, Peru needs to elect a new president, and Ecuador has just recently elected its president. The economy in both countries is still struggling.
Other Brief Comments:
New logistics hubs, and growing presence on the international market for agriculture products are a plus and is her;ping both countries to overcome some social issues.
