Feedback from the Trade on Their Plans and Interest in the USA Pear Season:
PBNW's local representative has been in discussion with importers that are interested in USA Pears for this season.
Expectations for Any Freight or Logistics Challenges:
The USD/VND exchange rate continued to increase again and remained at a high level, putting pressure on import prices and increasing transportation costs. Importers said the high price of USA Pears is a challenge for this season.
Opportunities in Your Market for Specific Varieties, Sizes, and Grades:
The Vietnamese market is especially interested in USA Pear varieties with firm pressure and a long shelf life such as Green Anjou, Red Anjou and Bosc. PBNW is also monitoring new pear varieties suitable for the market.
Update on the Competition in the Market:
USA Pears continue to compete mainly with Chinese pears, Korean pears and South African pears.
Political or Economic Issues Impacting Imports, Retail, or Consumer Behavior:
Vietnam's economy was severely affected by storm No. 3 Yagi, with a loss of about 1.6 billion USD, making the recovery of the retail market even more difficult as consumers increasingly tighten their spending and choose cheaper alternative products such as Chinese and South African fruits.
Other Brief Comments:
PBNW is actively working with importers to suggest that they try to import new varieties for the Tet season.
