Feedback from the Trade on Their Plans and Interest in the USA Pear Season:
At this late point of the season, importers are not planning any imports from NW USA.
Expectations for Any Freight or Logistics Challenges:
Logistics have been the biggest struggle for Brazilian importers, from all over the world. European imports with up to 80 days transit.
Opportunities in Your Market for Specific Varieties, Sizes, and Grades:
Not at this time.
Update on the Competition in the Market:
Argentina has started its shipments of new season Bartlett and a few of the early varieties. The major point is pricing; importers are saying that Argentina has been offering fruit for as low as US$16.00 per 18-kg box, which historically at this point of the season, would be priced around US$24.00. Another point is that there is no premium quality fruit available, at least for Brazil. The impression is that Argentina is holding this fruit to be shipped to USA. It is true that some regions will face reduction in volumes due to climate issues and there is also lots of talk around the quality, as the fruit seems to be for short storage.
Political or Economic Issues Impacting Imports, Retail, or Consumer Behavior:
The dollar exchange rate has softened a little, mostly due to the international environment. The interest rate has been increased to 13.24% per year; inflation is showing its claws and is climbing, with fuel prices being increased as well. The arrival of the new administration in the USA is causing lots of talks in Brazil, as no one is sure of what will happen.
