Feedback from the Trade on Their Plans and Interest in the USA Pear Season:

During this period, there was an increase in the volumes of Northwest pears in the region. Importers commented that prices at origin were higher in comparison with other origins, which has been limiting the volumes handled, but they will continue quoting with other suppliers from the Northwest to continue supplying their clients' needs. It's expected that USA Pear volumes will increase for the next month as trade members will receive more loads. At wholesale, USA Pears reported a pear market share of 55%, with 50% in supermarket stores and 38% in traditional channels. Good sales and quality were reported in this month.

Expectations for Any Freight or Logistics Challenges:

There are no challenges or concerns related to freight or logistics issues.

Opportunities in Your Market for Specific Varieties, Sizes, and Grades:

Anjou, Bosc and Red Anjou are the main varieties requested by importers and retailers in the region; nevertheless, the CAM market is also open to other varieties if the price is competitive. Small and medium sizes and US#1 and Fancy are preferred, but lower quality grades can be imported as well.

Update on the Competition in the Market:

Argentinean pears held 35% pear market share in the wholesale sector with 31% in supermarket stores and 30% in traditional channels; sales and quality were reported as good. Volumes are expected to remain at the same level during the next month, because importers will receive more loads due to their lower price. Pears from Chile reported 7% pear market share in the wholesale sector, 10% in supermarket stores and 25% in traditional channels. Sales and quality were reported as good during this period. Volumes are expected to decrease during the next month. California pears reported a volume decrease with 2% pear market share in the wholesale sector, 8% in supermarket stores and 7% in traditional channels. Good sales and quality were reported. Volumes are expected to decrease during the next month, because importers will not receive more loads. Pears from Spain were available just in Honduras and Panama with 1% pear market share. Volumes are expected to decrease during the next month, because importers will not receive more loads.
