Feedback from the Trade on Their Plans and Interest in the USA Pear Season:

A retailer which imported USA Red Anjou was sold out at the end of January, but due to quality problems, the loss was shared 75%/25% between the importer and retailer. They will keep importing USA Pears in the future, but will consider some new varieties and small sizes more. They hope that they can work together with suppliers in the future to ensure good quality arrivals. Another retailer directly imported USA Pears for the first time. Although the quantity was limited, the trial sales results were positive. The sales of USA Pears ended by the end of January, and they plan to continue importing USA Pears in the future.

The quality was acceptable with stable wholesale prices and a fine movement. Two containers each of Celina and Beurre Bosc from South Africa arrived in China. The quality was quite good, with a fine movement. The wholesale prices were reasonable for South African Celina, and relatively high for South African Beurre Bosc. Domestic pears were available in the market in large quantities, with varieties of Fragrant Pear, Autumn Moon Pear, Housui Pear, Ya Pear, Snowflake Pear and Crown Pear. The quality and price levels varied with acceptable movement.

Political or Economic Issues Impacting Imports, Retail, or Consumer Behavior:

In addition to a 10% tariff increase on USA Pears being announced in early March, consumption downgrading is evident due to the slow pace of China's economic recovery. According to the current price level of USA Pears, importers have little room for profit.
