Feedback from the Trade on Their Plans and Interest in the USA Pear Season:
Retailers continued to express interest in USA Pears. However, the supply of USA Pears to the retail sector depended largely on importers' procurement and commercial considerations. Further imports may be suspended as the landed price increased and the profit dropped.
Expectations for Any Freight or Logistics Challenges:
While traders didn't report any issues with the sea freight, the local logistics were affected as the Lunar New Year holiday approached. The delivery schedule of online shopping was affected as well, and it posed a significant challenge to the cold-chain management of the fresh produce sector.
Opportunities in Your Market for Specific Varieties, Sizes, and Grades:
Both Red and Green Anjou (#110-120 size) remained the two most popular varieties of USA Pears at the market, and the appearance and quality of both varieties has been stable. The texture was excellent with proper ripening. Hence, the retail sector held an open attitude toward the sales of USA Pears as long as the supply remained stable.
Update on the Competition in the Market:
The Japanese La France Pear, with the identical look of the Green Anjou, suddenly went viral in Taiwan recently, and despite its poor appearance and high price, consumers were still willing to purchase it. Traders stressed that, based on their observation over the years, Japanese fruits have been the only imported fruits in Taiwan that can be sold overpriced. With consumer perception of Japanese fruits as premium products, this variety could pose a challenge to USA Pears.
Political or Economic Issues Impacting Imports, Retail, or Consumer Behavior:
PBNW-Taiwan will actively seek different applications and opportunities for USA Pears to enhance their visibility and popularity in the market.
